Travelling to Myanmar: Insights from resident tourism MD

August 29, 2017

There has been a lot of media covering the troubles in the state of Rakhine in Myanmar.

Feedback overnight from ASIA DMC’s Managing Director, Gerben Bloemendaal who is based in Yangon is:

“Is is it safe to travel to Myanmar? YES it is very safe to travel Myanmar and we would like to confirm to potential visitors to Myanmar that all the main tourist destinations, including but not limited to places like Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake, Ngapali and other beaches, southern and eastern Shan State, Kayah, Kayin, Mon and Tanintharyi regions, Yangon and surrounding areas are safe.

We encourage visitors to read Embassy travel advice, for example from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/burma or from the Myanmar ministry of hotel and tourism http://www.myanmartourism.org/index.php/tourist-information/permitted- areas identified that should be avoided by visitors are some of very remote places in northern Shan State at China border and Northern Rakhine State at the Bangladesh border. These are not areas which form part of the usual tourist destinations.”

ASIA DMC would not jeopardise the safety of its travellers, staff, friends and family.

For any information on travel in Myanmar, feel free to contact Gerben Bloemendaal directly.
